Chart notes
CREEKMORE vied for the lead outside SHANGHAI POINT, was two wide leaving the bend, dueled in the lane and shook off BACKSHOT the final sixteenth. BACKSHOT pressed from outside, went for the lead outside CREEKMORE on the turn, battled that one in the lane, his rider lost his riding crop nearing the eighth pole, could not stay with CREEKMORE with a sixteenth to go but was clearly second best. STUMP forwardly placed behind the early speed, angled out behind BACKSHOT on the bend, lacked a rally in the lane but caught SHANGHAI POINT for third late. SHANGHAI POINT contested the pace in close quarters between horses, gained the rail nearing the quarter pole then began to flatten out upper stretch. WINGING WAYS displayed early speed from inside but began to fade on the bend.
