Chart notes
BET THE CHALK stumbled at the break but recovered quickly, vied five wide into the first turn, backed out and tucked in to the rail near the seven-eighths pole, was full of run but held up to the far turn, bid four wide and took the lead by the quarter pole and outfinished the field in the stretch. MISS PERU held the inside position into the first bend then emerged with the lead at the start of the backstretch run, soon joined by DANCING NURSE and LOOKOUT PASS, tried to quicken away after passing the half mile pole but was then taken on by STARLIT HARBOR and BET THE CHALK at the quarter pole, battled gamely, could not match the winner but outlasted the rest for second. STARLIT HARBOR came away from the gate awkwardly and broke behind the rest, made steady forward progress down the backstretch then was bidding for the lead three wide through the far turn, loomed a big threat turning for home then could not find the winning kick in the late stages. MAMARANDO went four wide battling for the early lead into the clubhouse turn, then was outside of the second group heading down the backstretch, loomed from the half, still racing wide, then flattened out near the quarter pole and finished evenly. LOOKOUT PASS stalked three wide through the first turn then moved up and was one of four contesting the early pace after passing the five furlong marker, gave way with three furlongs to run and had little to offer from that point. DANCING NURSE vied for the lead two between horses to the half, dropped off the pace near the seven-sixteenths pole and had nothing left for the stretch run.
