Chart notes
SMILING LADY broke well, dueled with PROOF OF JAZZ through the clubhouse turn, then opened up a clear lead down the backstretch, remained well in front through the far turn then increased the margin in the stretch while being kept to task. PROOF OF JAZZ broke well and pressed SMILING LADY through the first turn, ceded the lead to that one as the field turned into the backstretch, moved out to the three path, came under a ride from the three furlong pole, lost the second position approaching the quarter pole, was kept to task down the stretch and regained second in deep stretch. J AND M EXPRESS tracked well behind the pacesetter for the first half mile, launched a bid from the seven-sixteenths pole, passed PROOF OF JAZZ for the second position near the quarter pole then began to shorten strides near the furlong maker and was passed by that foe. VULIN was allowed to settle from the break and raced between a trio of horses at the rear of the field through the first turn. dropped back to last before the half mile pole and was never a factor. DERRYGOOLIN was being hustled from the gate but was not able to contest the pace, settled inside of three horses racing near the rear of the field through the early stages, was under a ride early on, started to fade near the three furlong marker was outrun the rest of the way.
