LION'S LAIR forwardly placed away from the start, settled just off of the decent early pace and tracked outside of runners heading to the half-mile pole, was well placed into the turn, improved position three wide at the quarter pole, roused four wide into the stretch, chased IRISH PRANCER to the furlong marker and closed determinedly into the final sixteenth, wore down the game runner-up in deep stretch and got up in the last stride to prevail. IRISH PRANCER prominent away from the start, stalked the decent early pace outside of STATEFOREST, advanced into the turn and pressed the pace three wide nearing the quarter marker, took command into upper stretch and led to the eighth pole, dug in while leading into the final sixteenth, fought gamely to deep stretch and was nailed on the wire by the oncoming winner, while clear of the rest for second. STATEFOREST hustled away from the start, assumed early command and set a decent pace heading to the half-mile marker, showed the way into the turn while off of the rail, was confronted by IRISH PRANCER and was pressed by that rival nearing the quarter pole, overtaken into upper stretch, fought on into the drive, was outfinished in the final sixteenth and held late for third. HOLLYWOOD RUMOR settled off of the decent early pace while never far back, tracked outside of rivals nearing the half-mile marker, was well placed while two to three wide into the turn, needed more into the stretch drive, made a mild late bid and just missed at the wire for show honors. LITTLE LILIANA broke a bit awkwardly and was last away from the gate, allowed to settle in the early stages, trailed into the turn, went two to three wide nearing the quarter marker, offered a mild late rally but failed to threaten late. THE GREAT HAYNES a step slow leaving the start, recovered and chased the decent early pace from inside of runners, saved ground into the turn, was well placed along the bend then got caught a bit in tight nearing the quarter marker, shifted to the two path into upper stretch and could not muster the needed late response.
