PASS THE BATON was allowed to settle into stride and content to track well behind the pace to the half mile marker, kept to the inside though off the rail, made an eye-catching move through the far turn, came into the stretch with a short lead, finished well under steady handling despite racing on the wrong lead and just held clear at the finish. SHOT OF COURAGE raced three wide at the rear of the tracking group in the early running, started to advance from the seven-sixteenths pole, took the inside path through the far turn and finished willingly up the rail under steady handling and intermittent urging to get up for the place. TRUSTY RUSTY broke alertly, went three wide thorough the first turn, tracked the runaway leaders at the head of the second flight, made an early three-wide move from the half-mile pole then swung four wide into the stretch, had some trouble changing leads in upper stretch, could not catch PASS THE BATON and was passed late for second. VERITAS AEQUITAS devoid of early speed, was far back through the early stages, made a four wide sweeping move on the far turn, finished well and was gaining but was too late. ATOMIC DROP hustled to the front and sprinted away from the rest by several length raced well away from the rail while left alone on the lead from the seven-eighths pole with BEAUTY N THE BOLT not too far back, held the lead to the five-sixteenths when overtaken by PASS THE BATON and TRUSY RUSTY, battled back gamely into the stretch but was spent from earlier efforts and tired in the final furlong. J. B. BOOKS settled well behind while not being asked for any speed from the break, launched a bid from the seven-sixteenths pole but flattened out in upper stretch and had nothing to give in the late stages. COUSIN RICHIE was not asked for anything from the start, saved ground to no avail while racing well off the pace, lacked a late bid came into the stretch on the left lead was outrun and not persevered with late. BEAUTY N THE BOLT broke well and went forward to chase ATOMIC DROP, allowed that rival to dictate the pace after passing the seven-furlong pole, kept close attendance down the backstretch, then started to struggle to keep up after passing the half mile pole, came under a stiff drive but did not respond, faded through the turn and was eased in the stretch. This race was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate time.
