Chart notes
BIG MAMA SUE pressed the pace from outside, fought on even terms leaving the far turn, took over in upper stretch, put away inner rival at the eighth pole when asked right handed, then drew away under steady handling late. ELEGANT SWAY set the pace in-hand on the inside under pressure, came under a ride on the far turn, asked left handed entering the lane, yielded to the winner at the eighth pole and stayed on secure second. TIERGARTEN was rank prior to the clubhouse turn then two to three wide early on the bend, stalked three deep into the far turn, tipped out at the top of the stretch, finished well but missed second. CAROLE LOMBARD stalked in the two path, moved out three wide on the backstretch, shifted in and bothered HIGHLANDS at the quarter pole, continued three wide into the stretch and lacked a bid. CHASINGSERENDIPITY rated along the rail, pushed on through the far turn while saving ground, moved out a bit in the lane and lacked further response. HIGHLANDS dropped back and angled in before running up on heels early, moved closer between rivals in the middle stages, got put in tight and checked between rivals at the quarter pole and could not rally after. THE RIDER ABOARD HIGHLANDS LODGED A CLAIM OF FOUL AGAINST CAROLE LOMBARD FOR INTERFERENCE AT THE QUARTER POLE AND A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INTO THE SAME INCIDENT. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS DISQUALIFIED CAROLE LOMBARD FROM FOURTH TO LAST FOR CROSSING INTO THE PATH OF HIGHLANDS ON THE FAR TURN, CAUSING THAT RIVAL TO CHECK AND COSTING HER A CHANCE AT A BETTER PLACING.
