Chart notes
OUTOFQUEMADO settled well back early, went into a drive from the three furlong marker, was not making much headway then suddenly found best stride under strong handling and intermittent urging, avoided the bumping in deep stretch, pulled ahead yards from the wire and prevailed. REGAL REDWOOD settled off the early pace then moved closer as the field went into the far turn, bid three wide chasing LUTHER PASS into the stretch, made some contact with that foe in upper stretch, drifted inward in deep stretch, bumped that rival once again before the sixteenths pole then was outfinished for the win. LUTHER PASS tracked the duel along the rail, moved to challenge on the far turn then took command in-hand approaching the quarter pole, took a bump from REGAL REDWOOD in upper stretch, pulled away then was confronted and bumped again by that rival before the sixteenth pole. HARBOR THUNDER lagged behind the field while racing three wide, started an extended run from the half-mile marker then went three wide through the far turn gradually making up ground, had trouble changing leads in the stretch then straightened out late but came up short. SOLDATNA dueled with DERBY BOY through solid fractions early, went on when that foe dropped out of it then tried to fight back when LUTHER PASS bid for the lead at the five-sixteenths pole, dug into mid-stretch then gave way. FAYRUZ TRIBUTE raced in mid-pack through the first half-mile, started a four-wide bid through the far turn but faltered and hand nothing for the stretch run. BARON'S SONG trailed the field early and did not muster a late bid. DERBY BOY was rushed to contend for the lead from the break, dueled with SOLDATNA to the far turn, started to fade near the three furlong marker and was no a factor from that point and was not persevered with late. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE BUMPING INCIDENT BETWEEN #2 LUTHER PASS AND #6 REGAL REDWOOD IN DEEP STRETCH, AFTER REVIEW THE STEWARDS DISQUALIFIED #6 REGAL REDWOOD FOR INTERFERENCE AND REVERSED THE ORDER OF FINISH OF THE TWO HORSES INVOLVED. THE ORIGINAL FINISH OF 5-6-2-7 WAS CHANGED TO 5-2-6-7.
