Chart notes
QUEBECK (ARG) unhurried from the break, raced five wide down the backstretch and into the turn, launched the bid after passing the three furlong pole, came seven wide into the stretch, drifted in late under right handed urging causing ALPINE SERMON to have to check, and was along in time. REGAL REDWOOD vied four wide in a spirited battle for the lead, was very game down the stretch, outfinished all three of the early rivals, gamely rebuffed a bid from ALPINE SERMON to the outside but was unable to fend off the winner in the final yards in a super effort. ALPINE SERMON was allowed to settle from the break then angled out to the four path early, maintained that course while advancing through the turn then bid five wide into the stretch, had to check late when the winner drifted into the path near the finish and had to settle for third. BEER BEGONE contested the pace two deep to the stretch, finished willingly but weakened in deep stretch. B D R BAXTER battled three deep for the early lead to mid-stretch, held gamely but was unable to fend off the closers in the late stages. OM FIRE broke well and was the inside horse in a four way battle for the early lead, held the rail through the turn a came into the stretch with a slight lead and gave way in mid-stretch. AS LUCK HAPPENS broke well then chased the pace scramble four to five wide to the turn, advanced through that turn and loomed a presence passing the quarter pole, was blocked in upper stretch then swung out to the five or six path but lacked a finishing kick. PRINCE OTTO was slow into stride and trailed throughout. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE STRETCH RUN AND ALSO A THE RIDER ON #2 ALPINE SERMON LODGED AN OBJECTION AGAINST #9 QUEBECK (ARG) FOR INTERFERENCE NEAR THE FINISH LINE. AFTER REVIEW OBJECTION WAS DISALLOWED AND THE ORIGINAL RESULT ALLOWED TO STAND.
