TARIFF set the pace on the fence under pressure from NEWLANDS, maintained a short lead through the far turn, cleared briefly entering the lane, met a pair of bids with a furlong remaining and gamely prevailed. SMILING TIZZY bobbled a bit leaving the gate but still came away with the field, stalked the top pair on the inside, saved ground to the stretch, tipped out drew alongside TARIFF at the eighth pole, fought between rivals into deep stretch, took a bump from UNRIVALED HERO, finished gamely but could not get by the winner. UNRIVALED HERO stalked in the two path, moved out three wide on the backstretch, took aim three deep entering the lane, bid three deep with a furlong remaining, drifted in and bumped SMILING TIZZY in deep stretch and kept on for a game third. MISSILE CRUISER reserved and taken to the inside, drew closer between rivals leaving the backstretch, angled in from behind NEWLANDS entering the lane, finished willingly chasing after the top trio but lacked the needed late punch. SPUN NOT STIRRED lacked early speed, trailed two wide into the first turn, started to pull and moved out to the three path around the bend, continued at the back in the two path on the second bend, angled out in the lane and failed to menace. NEWLANDS raced up close three wide into the first turn then pressed from outside in the two path, stayed alongside the leader to the quarter pole, lost touch with that rival exiting the bend and faded down the lane. THERE WAS A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STRETCH RUN BETWEEN SMILING TIZZY AND UNRIVALED HERO. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS RULED THAT UNRIVALED HERO DRIFTED IN AND INITIATED THE CONTACT WITH SMILING TIZZY AND THEREFORE NO CHANGE WAS MADE.
