Chart notes
EARL'S STORMY WIND stalked the pacesetter to midway on the far turn, rallied nearing the quarter pole to engage the leader in upper stretch, took control at the eighth pole and drew off as much best. SEEKING FREEDOM raced near the lead into the first turn, was carried out eight wide by MOONSHINE JOE the early leader who failed to negotiate the turn, dropped back to settle well off the pace down the backside, and made a steady advance coming home to gain the place in a good try. FORT GRANDE took the lead in the first turn when the early pacesetter bolted, opened a clear lead while setting a slow pace through the far turn and had no response when challenged in upper stretch weakening through the lane. WHY KENNY WHY chased the leader for three-quarters and failed to mount a closing bid finishing evenly. MOONSHINE JOE went to the lead shortly from the gate, bolted on the first turn carrying rivals well wide on the bend, continued to race wide in mid-field and never threatened. WEEKEND RETREAT slow early to be the distant trailer, rallied mildly on the final turn to close in on the field and flattened out midway down the lane having had too much to do. GUESS AGAIN was carried seven wide between rivals when early pacesetter fcould not handle the first turn, was taken in hand off that one to race mid-pack into the far turn and came up empty when called upon at the quarter pole.
