Chart notes
JOURNALISM broke well then took a stalking position along the inside, eased out to the three path around the far turn, chased outside RODGRIGUEZ exiting the bend, drew alongside BARNES past the eighth pole, put a head in front with sixteenth remaining and drove clear. BARNES sped to the front in the two path then moved over to the rail, set the pace under pressure from RODRIGUEZ, put that rival away with three furlongs remaining, showed the way into the final furlong, confronted by JOURNALISM shortly after and got outkicked in the final sixteenth. RODRIGUEZ stalked three then two wide before applying pressure between rivals around the first turn, stayed alongside BARNES to the second bend, could not keep up and chased that rival two wide then along the rail to the stretch, weakened in the stretch but finished a clear third. MELLENCAMP unhurried from inside then moved into the two path, lost ground while finding the rail again on the far turn and had little left for the stretch run. SMOOTH CRUISEIN went four wide into the first turn then raced up close three deep leaving the clubhouse turn, dropped back under urging three then two wide on the second bend and weakened in the lane.
