Chart notes
ALVIN stalked the runaway leader with a gap back to the rest, was patiently handled as REGIMENTAL made an early run at the leader just past the half-mile marker, bided time still close up through the far turn, then came under heavy pressure in upper stretch, did not seem to be getting anywhere then found a good stride late, surged to the lead under left handed urging and was up in time. REGIMENTAL went three wide through the first time, then tracked four wide down the backstretch close up with the tracking group, made an early run at SLAVA UKRANI after passing the half, took a slight lead into the stretch but found that rival resilient, lost the lead then had to dig in and fight back under strong handling to save the place. SLAVA UKRAINI sped to the lead under stout restraint, opened up going down the backstretch, was let loose after passing the half then under a drive from the five-sixteenths, got headed in upper stretch but battled back gamely under steady handling, regained the lead but was out finished in the final yards. LINE TO GAIN settled near the rear then became boxed in multiple times down the backstretch, advanced forward through the turn under a drive, raced mostly on the left lead down the stretch but managed to produce a steady rally but fell short of getting minor award. ELECTRIC CHARGE raced three to four wide through the clubhouse turn, settled mid-pack through the middle stages still wide, mildly advanced on the leader's trough the turn then finished with some interest under steady handling, got bumped late and outfinished. ICE AXE roused after the break but was not engaged with the early leaders, settled inside mid-pack, steadied going past the seven-sixteenth pole when LINE TO GAIN took the path, dropped back, finished even-paced and made mild late gains up the rail in the late stages but was never a serious threat. MYSTIFIER had good speed from the break and raced close up at the head of the tracking group down the backstretch, produced an even finish under steady handling but was unable to improve. ANCIENT MAN last into the first turn, trailed througout and never threatened.
