CHEROKEE SUNRISE dueled inside of MAXIMUM STORM through moderate splits in the early stages, trading the lead at points, ramped up the pace on the far turn the responded when set down at the top of the stretch, put a length or two on the nearest pursuers then had to deal with GRANSONSAM bidding up the rail, kept that rival at bay under steady handling and urging and prevailed. GRANDSONSAM raced up close in cover through the first half mile, steadied and shuffled back just after passing the half-mile pole, was boxed in from that point to the stretch, took advanage of an opening on the rail at the three-sixteenths pole, finished well under under steady handling, was put in tight at a coupe of points in the stretch run and could not get by the winner. BUTCHY BOY tracked four wide for the first half-mile, then started a sustained run from the three furlong marker, came three wide into the stretch and finished with some late interest to win the third spot. BUREAUCRATIC stalked two to three wide just of the leading pair, went to challenge for the lead leaving the three furlong pole, bid three wide into the stretch, was not good enough to threaten the winner and was out-finished for a minor award. MAXIMUM STORM dueled outside of CHEROKEE SUNRISE though the pace was not swift, was unable to go on when that rival quickened the pace on the far turn, gave way before the quarter pole then was not a factor in the stretch run. WRISTBAND lost the path shortly after the start and was last into the first turn, settled at the rear but not far from the front owing to the slow pace, responded when asked to go with about three furlongs left to run, swung five wide into the stretch but was unable to improve. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE START OF THE RACE. AFTER A REVIEW NO ACTION WAS TAKEN. This race was originally hand timed and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate time.
