Chart notes
XYNGIN SPITFIRE settled three wide behind the pack early, circled the field on the turn, bid three wide at the top of the stretch, then engaged PAYNT BALL in a ding-dong duel for the length of the stretch and kept a head in front to the wire. PAYNT BALL broke well, dueled with BUCK LAKE into the turn, got the best of that foe at the five-sixteenths then had to deal with challenges from a pair of rivals to the outside, battled on gamely with the winner but came up short in a solid effort. CHEROKEE SUNRISE broke well but steadily dropped back down the backstretch, started to run on from the three furlong pole, came four wide into the stretch, was on the wrong lead but finished evenly to gain the third spot. LIGHT THE CODE chased the dueling leaders under mild handling early, became boxed in midway on the turn, lost momentum and was unable to recover. BUCK LAKE was fractious in the gate and delayed the start, from the break was hustled to the front from the inside, joined by PAYNT BALL at the nine-sixteenths marker, weakened leaving the five-sixteenths pole and came up empty in the stretch. CATALE HURRYCANE tracked four wide down the backstretch then moved up three wide to bid for the lead approaching the quarter pole, chased the top pair down the stretch then took a bad step just past the sixteenth pole and lost the rider, was vetted and transported from the course via the equine ambulance. This race was originally hand timed and was re-timed using video technology to arrive at the most accurate final time.
