Chart notes
EMPIRE KID broke sharply, seized the early advantage, held sway through the turn under confident handling, then opened up when roused at the top of the stretch and won clear under steady handling. THE SPEEDY ONE raced between horses in the forward group, was boxed in through the turn, then ran through a seam at the three-sixteenths pole, had trouble changing leads but lengthened strides anyway, gained second and just held safe from a fast closing outside rival. BLACK CANDY broke well and was close up early, steadied and shuffled back at the nine-sixteenths marker, kept to the inside through the turn angled out from the rail to the four path in the stretch run and surged late to just miss the place. CHARLI MICHAEL was always close up while four wide, made a bid to go after EMPIRE KID passing the quarter pole but proved no match, chased to deep stretch and was outfinished in the final yards. SLITHER was close up in the initial stages, steadied off heels near tne nine-sixteenths pole, lacked room on the turn then was fighting the rider and running high-headed in the stretch. BOBBY BOY raced five to six wide in mid-pack and finished evenly. MALIBU BRAD settled at the back of the main pack, was a bit hard to place and steadied approaching the half-mile pole, lost some ground and momemtum, went eight-wide into the stretch and finished under urging. CAJUN CYCLONE got pinched back at the start, made a mild three-wide advance going into the turn, swung seven wide into the stretch, but could not factor in the outcome. HALF MAGIC got forced outward at the start, rushed up to race mid-pack six wide throughout and lacked a finish. SUNSET WAR raced between horses in the forward grooup then weakened in the lane. WHY JOEY WHY was hustled from the break to no avail, settled mid-pack, then did not respond when asked to go on leaving the three furlong pole. RAKA RAKA CRUZ broke slowly, was a bit rank going into the turn, was taken wide passing the half-mile pole then started four wide into the turn but was unable to make an impact.
