Chart notes
RED CHIPS unhurried, early, responded readily when set down, split horses three wide in upper stretch to make the lead at the furlong marker under right handed urging and won under strong handling. DR. GEORGE stalked the pace outside, rallied four wide on the far turn to gain a narrow lead before the quarter pole, battled until deep stretch and gamely gained second. SMOKIN JOE pressed the pace three wide, drifted five wide entering the stretch, matched stride inside the furlong marker and was outfinished. MERGER away alertly, set the pace along the inside for five furlongs, kept momentum into the stretch and weakened late. VERNON'S BEST stalked the early pace three wide, made the lead entering the far turn, battled to the top of the stretch then came up empty. JACOBI trailed.
