Chart notes
WESTERN WHIRL comfortably cleared from the outer post to get the lead on the rail while setting a moderate opening quarter, rolled along loose on the lead on the turn while quickening the tempo and had plenty left for the drive to spurt away even more at the furlong pole to increase the winning margin at the finish. PINE KNOLL broke out on the start, settled on the rail watching the pacesetter in the beginning, made little gain in the two path through the oval, posed the main threat in the three path straightening for home, tried valiantly but just could not get to the frontrunning winner down the lane. SOUPER DORMY was at the back three deep on the outside of two other rivals down the back straight, closed in but then had to be checked briefly at the five sixteenths pole coming up quickly to runners, shifted four wide with a chance in upper stretch and could only manage to finish up mildly to the wire for the show money. ONE TRUE GENTLEMAN was on the rail, part of the back threesome in the early stages, edged up on the fence on the turn, skimmed the rail to be in the conversation at the top of the stretch but was outkicked in the last eighth, dueling foe second and settled on the fringes in the end. POSEIDON STEEL kept a close eye on the leader while going three deep outside horses down the backside, ran evenly four wide travelling around the bend, shifted to the five path but had no punch in the stretch running. KHALI'S DREAM was brushed outside on the start, tracked the pacesetter under a snug hold between horses in the early going, travelled in the three path under a ride trying to just hold position around the turn, shifted four wide in upper stretch but could not get in contention down the lane. HIGHLAND LIFE had a stalking role with rivals on either side in the trialing trio at the start, was checked repeatedly between runners going down the backside, could see the field making little progression around the bend and in the two path could not get involved in the stretch running.
