STARSHIP EMPIRE unhurried near the rear of the field in a closely bunched pack to the far turn, was well placed along the inside on the final bend while waiting for racing room at the quarter pole, angled out across heels in upper stretch into the clear five wide and finished well to be clear late. BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES was slowly away when held by the assistant starter when the gates opened, trailed to the far turn, swept up with a strong rally on the far turn to take the lead in upper stretch and was rundown inside the sixteenth pole in a game effort. THE DOORMAN pressed the pace from two wide for three-quarters abd kept-on evenly through the lane lacking a finishing bid. SHIVAREE set the pace under constant pressure dueling on the front end and weakened midway down the lane. SMILE BRYAN stalked the pace for five-eighths, rallied on the turn to be prominently placed under a ride and flattened out turning for home. THE STEWARDS POSTED AN INQUIRY INTO THE START OF BRUMBA WAFFLE TOES AND UPON REVIEW DETERMINED HE FAILED TO RECEIVE A FAIR START AND DECLARED HIM A NON-STARTER.
