Chart notes
DICK BEST vied outside a rival around the first turn and into the backstretch, shook clear leaving the five eighths, drafted towards the inside and was nicely rated past the five sixteenths, responded when set down in upper stretch and steadily pulled away under strong handling. COALMINER'S KITTEN , off the early pace, was urged up between rivals leaving the five furlong marker, advanced three deep near the three eighths, pursued the winner into and through the stretch, kept on with effort and was clearly second best. HANDSOFFTHEGOODS , in the clear stalking the early duel, chased between runners past the three eighths, stayed willingly to about mid stretch then faded. PAYNT BY LETTERS , unruly behind the gate, came away in good order and sparred inside the winner past the seven eighths and into the backstretch, saw that one clear past the five eighths, stayed around and chased inside rivals leaving the far turn, failed to go on near mid stretch and weakened. BREAKOUT STAR broke a bit outward, raced off the pace, angled four wide nearing the lane and failed to respond.
