Chart notes
INCA EMPIRE was allowed to settle around the first turn and remained unhurried up the backstretch, picked up the pace three wide mid-way around the far turn, advanced into closer contention, dug in under firm handling, took the lead past the sixteenth pole and held late. HOLDING PATTERN was reserved and raced in the back, swung four wide under a ride entering the upper stretch, responded willingly along the outside and gained to the wire. SHOTSHELL vied for the lead leaving the first turn and up the backstretch, briefly shook free then took on the challenge from BEN DIESEL around the far turn, dug in gamely, shook free, continued to put in a good effort then got wore down late. BEN DIESEL raced off the top pair around the first turn, stalked the embattled duo up the backstretch, advanced to duel outside of SHOTSHELL around the far turn, could not match strides at the head of the lane, ran on to mid-stretch then gave way. JUST PLAIN ORNERY vied inside of SHOTSHELL up the backstretch and came up empty around the final turn.
