Chart notes
HARD TO FATHOM broke well, then settled just behind the pacesetter under a strong hold, let that one dictate slow fractions to the far turn, got first turn at the dueling leaders bid three-wide approaching the stretch, finished up well under steady handling and left-handed urging, and got a favorable bob at the wire. WOODCOCK FLIGHT (IRE) settled in good position on the inside in the middle of the pack, launched a bid midway through the far turn, squeezed through an opening near the rail finished strong but came up on the short end of the photo. EVEN THE WIND settled mid-pack off the pace, waited until late on the far turn to make a bid, came five-wide into the stretch, closed well but could not get to the wire in time. RIVER REDEMPTION pulled on the rider while racing between horses at the rear, finished willingly between horses in the sprint to the finish, but came up short. CAUGHT OFF GUARD unhurried and last into the first turn, swung out six-wide into the stretch, finished well despite drifting in some in the final furlong but ran out of time. BOURBON LIFE held up from the start and was last as the field turned onto the backstretch, saved ground to the stretch, tried to make up bid up the rail but lacked a clear path and was outfinished. SONIC SPEED was forwardly placed but three wide into the first turn without really being asked, settled three-wide down the backstretch, then moved up to challenge REDFIELD on the lead after passing the half-mile pole, had a short lead turning for home but was unable to kick on, and was surrounded and overtaken in deep stretch. REDFIELD was coaxed to the lead from the break, cleared away by a couple of lengths on the first turn, led the way through pedestrian fractions down the backstretch, then came under a ride when confronted by SONIC SPEED on the far turn, and was outrun in the stretch.
