Chart notes
QUALIFIED HIRE was not asked for speed from the break, went three wide into the first turn, then made a steady advance in the run down the backstretch, caught up with EXTREMELY GRUNTLED on the lead approaching the quarter pole, then drew away in the stretch under steady handling and urging. EXTREMELY GRUNTLED was sent to the lead from the start, went clear of the rest with only VIKING QUEEN taking close order, slipped away from that one on the backstretch, took a big lead into the far turn, was overtaken by QUALFIED HIRE near the quarter pole, kept on well despite tiring, drifted out in deep stretch, and just managed to save the place. SHIGEKO raced forwardly in the tracking group early, was in an all-out drive passing the three-furlong pole, and finished up well to just miss second. VODKATINI settled mid-pack through the early stages, came under a stiff drive midway on the far turn, was never a serious threat but kept on well through the stretch. COAL MINE stumbled badly at the start, raced far behind for a half-mile, saved ground through the far turn, and rallied up the rail to improve position. VIKING QUEEN pressed the pace on the first turn, struggled to keep up with the pacesetter after passing the half-mile pole, started a steady retreat before the far turn, and was not a factor in the late stages. LADY DOMINANCE got caught five-wide on the first turn, then settled near the back in the run down the backstretch, chased the main pack into the far turn, but was unable to make an impact. CLEOPATRA'S NILE raced three-wide at the head of the tracking group, made a forward move going into the far turn, but could not sustain the bid. HOP TO A DECISION was outrun and never threatened.
