LEONIDS circled the field about seven-wide on the first turn to bid two-wide for the lead heading down the backstretch, took command after passing the half-mile pole, maintained a margin of a couple of lengths on the field through the turn, then kept the rest at bay through the stretch under steady handling and intermittent urging despite drifting out a bit in the final yards. BESTSUGARDADDYEVER broke best and led the field through the clubhouse turn, went with LEONIDS through mild early fractions to the far turn, dropped off the pace at the quarter pole, then rallied late to reclaim second. STRIKING SPARKS was pushed a bit from the break to get a forward position, settled up close just behind the dueling leaders, ranged up confidently three-wide late on the far turn to bid for the lead, battled with LEONIDS to deep stretch, but was outfinished by that rival in the last sixteenth and passed late for the place. INBOUND was not asked for speed from the break, then coaxed along to race close up down the backstretch, launched a bid from the three-furlong pole, went five-wide into the stretch, and flattened out. FUNKENSTEIN raced in last position and three-wide through the first turn, struggled to keep up late and was never a threat. DISTURBED settled mid-pack three-wide, was outpaced and lost ground through the far turn, then finished evenly through the stretch. GRANTED SUCCESS tracked four-wide racing close up through the first half, continued wide through the far turn, the weakened in the stretch. FIRST SHOT FIRED raced close up on the inside through the early stages, came under a ride on the far turn, and faded in the stretch. BELTS 'N BROOKS never threatened. YOU KIDDING ME lacked any early speed, raced near the back and had nothing to offer late.
