Chart notes
COASTLAND seized the early lead as the field split into two packs of three, maintained a length clear through the turn under confident handling, was set down passing the quarter pole, and responded to strong handling and urging in the stretch, holding clear to the finish. MO DONT NO settled near the back with the trailing group through the early stages, then advanced three-wide under a drive through the turn, briefly had trouble with the lead change at the top of the stretch, then finished well but was unable to get to the winner. HITE raced inside with the second flight, started a sustained run leaving the half-mile pole, made up a lot of ground late, and gained the third spot in the final yards. SPIRIT OF AKRON tracked close up three-wide early, made a bid for the lead approaching the quarter pole, was rebuffed, then weakened late and was passed for the minor awards. HOTROD BOBBY broke well, raced close up on the inside just behind COASTLAND on the lead, struggled to keep pace midway through the turn and tired in the stretch. WATCHOUTFORWEAVER raced at the back of the second group, went four to five wide through the turn and into the stretch, and was unable to improve.
