THANKS FRANK was sent from the break and cleared the field, got pressed by TONIGHT from the start, came three-wide into the stretch but held that one and several others at bay through the stretch to prevail in a gritty effort. GAMBOLING GHOST moved up after a tardy start, was sent forward four-wide from the half-mile pole to go after the leaders, and was having to be hard-ridden to keep up late on the turn, dropped down to the two path for the stretch run, and finished well, could not get to the winner but won the battle for the place. TONIGHT got bumped by AURA OF GOLD at the start and rebounded into FINISTERE, pressed the early pace while under a hard hold to the turn, chased close up through the turn and into the stretch, gave a good effort but was outfinished. ROUNDBALL ROCK hustled from the break, pressed the pace three-wide early, bid under a hard ride from the three-furlong pole, came four-wide into the stretch, finished well under strong handling and urging, but could not find the extra gear when needed in the final furlong. AURA OF GOLD took a bump from THANKS FRANK at the start and was in turn forced into TONIGHT, tracked between horses in the second flight, made a forward move into the turn but became briefly boxed in, angled to the rail and finished with interest but was not quite good enough in the late stages. FINISTERE took a bump after the start, then pushed to press the early pace, started to lose ground on the leaders as they passed the three-furlong pole, had some trouble changing leads in the upper stretch, but managed to close a bit late under strong handling. VERBIER was close in the initial stage after a level start, dropped off the pace heading into the turn, and never threatened. COWBOY JUSTICE was off a step slow and always behind.
