Chart notes
SEEKING FREEDOM brushed with HARSH TRUTH at the break but rushed up inside to stalk the early pace, bided time through the turn, then angled out to about four-wide but into the path of MAN'S CHOICE, forcing that one to take up, finished well under strong handling and urging to get up in the last jump. NATIONAL STORY broke well, pressed the pace three-wide early, pulled even with three furlongs to run, battled a stubborn REDDEN through the stretch, put a head in front just past the eighth pole, and just failed to last. VECCHI ducked in at the start, bothering the two rivals in adjacent stalls, raced close up at the back of the forward group, bid five-wide at the top of the stretch, steadied to avoid contact with MAN'S CHOICE, then came back on under steady handling to just miss. DOUBLE AGENT got bumped hard by VECCHI at the start, rebounded into the inside rival and took up, chased well off the pace, then put in a strong run through the stretch but came up a bit short. MAN'S CHOICE was a little slow to get going but found a good rhythm after a furlong, tracked close up four-wide, loomed five-wide turning into the stretch, then took up when SEEKING FREEDOM took the path, angled to the inside, and finished up well but was stuck behind horses and took up in traffic in the final yards. REDDEN broke best, made the early running and led the field through the turn, dug in under threat near the quarter pole, battled gamely through the stretch, but gave way in the final yards. SMOOCHER shied from contact after the break, moved to the inside, then took up just past the eleven-sixteenths marker, was sent up three-wide to try and regain contact with the field, improved a bit, but was unable to sustain the bid beyond the quarter pole. HARSH TRUTH broke well but was outpaced from the start, was far behind to the stretch, but was kept to task late, and managed to beat one to the wire. VERNON'S BEST was slow to begin, then took up when bumped by DOUBLE AGENT, moved up and down the backstretch to get to midfield by the turn, then weakened under a drive and had nothing to offer late. THE JOCKEYS ON #9 MAN'S CHOICE AND #7 VECCHI LODGED OBJECTIONS AGAINST #1 SEEKING FREEDOM, ALLEGING INTERFERENCE IN UPPER STRETCH. AFTER A REVIEW, BOTH OBJECTIONS WERE UPHELD, AND #1 SEEKING FREEDOM WAS DISQUALIFIED FROM FIRST AND PLACED 5TH.
