Chart notes
HARVARD stumbled at the start, n, pulled even near the five-furlong pole, then dueled outside of that rival through the far turn and into the stretch, gained a slight advantage in the final furlong and held clear to the finish under steady handling and intermittent urging. SMASH made the lead easily from the start, was joined by HARVARD at the five-furlong pole, went together with that one through moderate fractions to the far turn, then dug in when both riders set down approaching the quarter pole, then weakened in the final yards. OILER tracked three-wide from the outset, tried to maintain position when the pace quickened after the half, loomed a threat approaching the quarter pole while under a drive, but could not find the needed late kick, and managed to save third. PITTSBURGH was always four-to-five wide, went one-paced throughout. VINCENZINO settled at the back of the field along the rail through the early stages, advanced closer down the backstretch, but was unable to generate a late bid. FOOD FOODIE lacked any early speed, trailed early, and never threatened. FIREWATER JAKE settled near the rear through the first half-mile, went wide through the far turn and lacked a finish. FUN LOVIN CRIMINAL took a light bump from HARVARD at the start, then chased the early leaders through the first turn, then dropped back to last before the half-mile pole and was not involved in the later stages.
