OY GEVALD ducked out after the start, then raced two deep in a made scramble for the early lead, backed off before the turn, then rebid in the stretch, was blocked near the three-sixteenths marker, then switched to the outside, rallied, and was along in time to claim the top prize. TRE ITALIANI was four-wide in the early pace battle, put a head in front going into the turn, had a narrow lead in upper stretch, battled gamely but could not hold off the winner. DEFENDING ALBERT pressed five-wide in the pace battle, lost some ground on the turn, but came back on in the stretch, loomed a big threat in mid-stretch but hung and was outfinished. BRODY was the outside horse in a seven-way scramble for the early lead, got hung five-wide into the stretch, and finished up with some interest but lacked a winning kick. MIDTERM got shuffled back at the start, then raced in the middle of the pack, moved up late on the turn, and finished evenly. TAKEITAWAY raced five-wide throughout and lacked a finishing kick. GOOD TO BE PRINCE had the inside position in the pace battle, broke away from the rest with TRE ITALIANI through the turn, battled gamely into upper stretch then gave way grudgingly in the late stages. EL MUCHO was unable to keep up early, swung out six-wide into the stretch, but lacked the needed response. VERRAZANOINTHESKY steadied in traffic a few yards after the start, then moved up into the turn after a slow start, made a mild four-wide bid on the turn, then flattened out. GUNNY SACK was briefly close up, then backed off, appeared to be bothered by the kickback, moved to the rail, and was uninvolved in the later stages. SOMETHINTOBELIEVEN was always outrun. R U JOKING vied early, backed off approaching the three-furlong pole, and steadily retreated.
