Chart notes
WILLIE T settled close up three-wide, moved to challenge OL' NELSON on the lead near the quarter pole while under a drive, wore down that rival inside the sixteenth, then drew clear in the late stages. OL' NELSON broke sharply, cleared the field and angled over to the inside, led the way to the stretch, got a little tired inside the sixteenth pole and yielded to WILLIE T, but managed to save second. BUCKEYE MIKE veered out at the start, then settled four-wide with the early leaders, moved to challenge for the lead near the five-sixteenths marker, loomed four-wide at the top of the stretch, finished with good interest but was not getting to the winner in the late stages. GRAY TORMENTOR settled well off the pace through the early stages, then moved up midway through the turn, tipped out to the five or six path for the stretch run, and put in a late bid but was too late. STRIKE PLATE moved up after the start to press the early pace, waited for room late on the turn, got a big opening at the head of the stretch, but was unable to take advantage and was outfinished. WEEKEND RETREAT lugged in after the break and made contact with PLAYFULASITGETS, was taken back and raced last, well behind the rest, through the early stages, swung seven-wide into the stretch, and picked off a few rivals in the stretch to improve. AGNELLO CITY was slow into stride despite the best efforts of the rider, was kept in a drive while racing well behind the front, then finished even-paced while never a serious threat. PLAYFULASITGETS took a light bump and was in a bit tight just after the start, chased the leaders into the turn, then ran out of steam approaching the quarter pole and weakened in the stretch run. HIDDEN HEART broke in at the start, brushed with GRAY TORMENTOR, raced four-to-five wide in mid-pack, and came up empty in the stretch.
