Chart notes
WILLING TO BURN settled in the middle of the pack through the first half, then started to run on through the far turn, took command leaving the quarter pole, then drew well clear through the stretch. ACCLAIMED PREACHER was unhurried at the back, then started a forward move from the half-mile pole, flattened out a bit before the stretch, but kept up a grinding finish to outfinish CLASSIC AMERICAN past the sixteenths marker and take down the second prize. CLASSIC AMERICAN was sent from the outside post to grab the early lead, sprinted clear down the backstretch, led the field through the far turn, then had no response when challenged by WILLING TO BURN leaving the quarter pole, and passed up in the final furlong for the place. PROOF OF JAZZ had good speed from the break and won the race to the first turn, ceded the lead to CLASSIC AMERICAN turning down the backstretch and backed off to a tracking position, started to weaken midway on the turn, and tired in the stretch. SUPER ANNIE was always near the rear and never a factor.
