Chart notes
GUNNER GABRIEL broke in at the start, then went to the front, maintained a narrow lead through the turn, brushed off a bid by GAPPER at the top of the stretch, and drew clear under steady handling and urging. GAPPER was allowed to settle after the start, moved out to the four-path into the turn, moved up to go after GUNNER GABRIEL on the lead, could not match strides in the stretch, but kept on well and finished far ahead of the rest. IRONCLAD ALIBI chased inside, was being coaxed along before the turn, kept grinding along in the stretch, and outfinished the rest to gain third. GENERAL WINSTON hustled up to join the lead, pressed the pace on the inside to the turn, weakened near the quarter pole, and was unable to threaten late. CHIEF BUCKEYE got impeded by the outside rival at the start, tracked three-wide and flattened out in the stretch.
