Chart notes
HOT WINGS forwardly placed to the first turn then took back, tracked the moderate pace three wide along the backstretch, chased between rivals nearing the quarter pole then angled out for the drive, responded well into the lane, surged late and was along in time for the win. NOBLE COURT off a step slowly, settled to the backstretch then advanced while widest nearing the half-mile, chased three wide into the far turn, maintained a three wide path to the stretch, rallied into the final furlong and vied between foes late, was outfinished for the win but got up for the place. BRIARCLIFF broke in at the start, showed speed and disputed the early pace into the first turn, shook free into the backstretch, made his own pace to the far turn, led into upper stretch, dug in while under pressure into the drive, was outkicked by the top pair in deep stretch and was clear for the show. LORD RIPLEY squeezed and took up at the start, unhurried to the backstretch, advanced between rivals into the far turn, ridden along two to three wide into the lane, made a mild rally to deep stretch but needed more late. OLD TRACE crowded at the start and off a bit slowly, settled in the second flight and saved ground to the backstretch, asked for run to the far turn, chased to the quarter pole, ran in pursuit to upper stretch, lacked a rally in the late stages and weakened. MARAVICH forwardly placed early then took back into the first turn, was unhurried to the half-mile pole, coaxed along the inside heading to the quarter marker, saved ground to the stretch and did not offer a late response. SUPER SMOOTH prominent early, pressed the pace into the backstretch, dropped back nearing the half-mile, stopped into the far turn, was eased through the stretch and walked off. THE JOCKEY OF LORD RIPLEY LODGED AN OBJECTION AGAINST THE JOCKEY OF BRIARCLIFF, CLAIMING INTERFERENCE AT THE START. THE STEWARDS DISALLOWED THAT OBJECTION AND RULED NO CHANGE.
