Chart notes
LEAD THE WAY tracked early pace inside, lost ground approaching the half, chased from the inside along the far turn, angled three wide to upper stretch and confronted DIABLO SHIRAZ leaving the three-sixteenths, dueled while holding a narrow lead to the final sixteenth, dug in late and determinedly prevailed. DIABLO SHIRAZ off a step slowly, settled to the backstretch then shifted out and advanced while widest heading to the half-mile pole, vied three then two wide nearing the quarter pole, fought gamely inside of LEAD THE WAY into the lane, was denied for the win in deep stretch and bested the rest. MORGAN'S BLUFF settled, coaxed three wide along the backstretch, caught in tight between foes at the three-eighths, angled out nearing the quarter pole and chased four wide to upper stretch, could not match strides with the top pair into the final sixteenth but stayed on late to be clear for third. NIXON'S TIME ceded early lead, pressed pace two wide to the half, weakened into the far turn, no final response. UNCHAINED SPIRIT sent, set moderate pace while prompted to the far turn, overtaken into upper stretch, faded in the lane.
