Chart notes
VODKA MARTINI broke a bit sluggishly but responded when coaxed for speed, chased the leading pair down the backstretch and through the turn, bid for the lead three-wide at the top of the stretch, took command before the furlong marker, and drew off under steady handling. BACKFIRE tracked off the pace while racing along the rail to the turn, came out to the four-path in upper stretch, was never getting to the winner, but outgamed a pair of rivals for the place. CREOLE CHARLIE raced in the middle of the pack, moved up in range approaching the top of the stretch, kept on with a grinding finish, and just missed getting up for second. STOMPING HOTROD pressed the pace two-wide, took over the lead late on the turn, but was unable to last. REBEL EMPIRE was at the back traveling in the three-path, finished with mild late interest and improved. SANPIRODU was outpaced early, got over to the rail before the turn, came out three-wide into the stretch, but did not threaten. COLONEL BARTON raced five-wide throughout and lacked a finish. PINEDALE was outpaced early, passed tired foes late. CRIME SPREE chased three-wide down the backstretch, swung six-wide into the stretch, and faltered. CHAD'S FLASH hustled away to clear the field early, was overtaken by STOMPING HOTROD midway through the turn, and wilted in the stretch.
