Chart notes
FORGED STEEL set the pace with MALARCHUK applying pressure to the outside, maintained a short lead up the backstretch, put that rival away approaching the quarter pole, kicked away under right handed urging in upper stretch, then continued to widen in the final furlong under a tap of left handed encouragement and strong handling. MALARCHUK pressed FORGED STEEL from outside to the far turn, failed to keep up with the winner outside the quarter pole, chased in the two path turning for home, churned on through the lane and was able to hold on for second. MC VAY broke a step slow and got bumped back at the start, followed in range from the three path, remained off the rail through the far turn, drifted out a bit in the lane and could not get by MALARCHUK for the place honors. BRITISH ISLES broke well from outside then took back off the leaders, went four then three wide around the clubhouse turn, followed the same paths on the second bend, drifted into the stretch and was outfinished for the place and show. SUBSANADOR (ARG) bumped MC VAY leaving the gate, settled inside, ridden along while continuing to save ground on the far turn, had little left for the stretch run and was eased through the final furlong.
