Chart notes
HUGHES fought inside HIGH PRONTO up the backstretch and around the turn, kicked clear under steady handling midstretch, drew off into the final sixteenth and was in hand late. MOSIGMA was off slow to begin, chased from off the pace, took the turn three then four wide and rallied for second. MIDNIGHT OVATION raced up close to the inside of the top pair, got shuffled a bit behind HUGHES crossing over into the turn, tipped off the fence, took aim three wide turning for home, challenged the leaders in upper stretch, could not kick on with the winner midstretch, flattened in the late stages and lost second. HIGH PRONTO dueled outside HUGHES for command, stayed with that rival to the three-sixteenths pole, then yielded midstretch and weakened in the final furlong. CURLIN TORNADO broke slow on the outside, trailed outside a rival well off the rail then angled in and raced outside NICHOLS into the turn, continued at the back two wide into the lane and failed to make an impact. NICHOLS hustled early while dropping off the pace, raced inside CURLIN TORNADO at the back into the turn, saved ground to the stretch and was never a factor.
