Chart notes
THROWTHEFIRSTPUNCH set the pace under pressure from PROUD RACER, inched ahead of that rival into the turn, showed the way into the final furlong, drifted in and bothered CORNEALEUSTHEGREAT approaching the sixteenth pole and held late. PROUD RACER pressed the pace from outside, chased two wide around the far turn, finished willingly down the lane but lacked the needed final kick. CORNEALEUSTHEGREAT tracked in the two path around the first turn, moved inside on the backstretch, drafted behind the leader on the far turn, challenged from inside with a furlong left to run, had his path taken by the winner and checked outside the sixteenth pole, recovered and kept on gamely to the wire. FARMER TOM stumbled inward leaving the gate, trailed in the three path on the clubhouse turn, remained three wide through the second bend and could not rally. BELLO ROSSO stalked two wide into the first turn then began to pull and shifted over to the three path, chased three deep around the second bend and weakened in the drive. THE RIDER ABOARD CORNEALEUSTHEGREAT LODGED AN OBJECTION AGAINST THROWTHEFIRSTPUNCH FOR ALLEGED INTERFERENCE IN THE STRETCH. THERE WAS ALSO A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INTO THE SAME INCIDENT. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS DISQUALIFIED THROWTHEFIRSTPUNCH FROM FIRST TO THIRD FOR DRIFTING IN AND TAKING THE PATH OF CORNEALEUSTHEGREAT, COSTING THAT RIVAL A CHANCE AT A BETTER PLACING.
