Chart notes
WHINE COUNTRY prompted the pace from four wide for the first half mile while keeping an eye on PEAK PERFORMER, rallied to the lead leaving the three-eighths pole, was quickly challenged by the runner-up on the bend, dueled with that one all the way home from the inside, was briefly headed inside the eighth pole and came again gamely in a determined drive to be up at the wire. PEAK PERFORMER tracked the leaders down the backside under patient handling from the back of the compact field, rallied four wide on the turn to engage the winner, vied for the final quarter mile, taking a brief lead in the nose to nose battle and was outgamed late having to settle for second best. WAZEY'S CHARM rated in hand along the inside to be well placed, could not go with the top pair when the running began on the final bend and ran-on down the lane. FIFTY TWO FIFTY took the lead setting a slow pace for a half mile under mild pressure, had no answer when challenged on the turn and faded to the rear coming home.
