LYMAN was hustled to the front, dictated terms while facing only mild pressure from a rival to the outside, remained in command through the turn, and held firm late. CHIVATO moved up under some cropping after the start, pressed the pace from the two path, came under steady urging late, but could not get past the leader. GRAYROCK LADY was squeezed at the start by the inside foe, dropped to last, raced three wide through the turn, and improved position mildly. EL PROTONICO broke outward and bumped with GRAYROCK LADY, chased from between rivals, came under urging in the latter stages, but lacked the needed response. PRINCE PIERRE was outpaced early despite strong encouragement, saved ground along the rail, and failed to threaten. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY INTO THE START. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT #4 EL PRONTONICO DID CAUSE INTERFERENCE WITH #5 GRAYROCK LADY AFTER THE START, BUT SINCE THE LATTER FINISHED IN A BETTER POSITION, NO ACTION WAS NEEDED.
