PERRY COUNTY broke inward but was hustled to the front, established a clear lead on the first turn, dictated the pace throughout, repelled a challenge near the quarter pole and finished strongly under steady handling. E LION went three wide on the first turn, tracked in the two path down the backstretch, moved up three wide nearing the quarter pole, finished with a willing effort but was outfinished late and had to settle for second. ESCAPE ARTIST settled toward the back along the inside, advanced on the second turn, came out three wide into the stretch and made some late gain. SABI pulled early while racing two wide on the first turn, settled in second under a tight hold, was sent after the leader approaching the three-eighths, made an inside bid near the quarter pole and finished with a steady effort but lacked the needed finish. INTERLOCK EMPIRE stumbled at the break and was bothered when an outside rival came over, forced three wide on the clubhouse turn, maintained that path down the backstretch, began a bid near the three-furlong marker, but failed to sustain the run in upper stretch. POINT PROVEN settled near the back for a half-mile, came out five-wide for the stretch run, but did not have the needed response. SONYA KNOWS BETTER did not appear to handle the sloppy going, trailed the field to the far turn, dropped far back, and was not involved in the late stages.
