Chart notes
UNDERSTUDY KITTY lunged at the break, was patiently handled down the backstretch, hugged the inner rail entering the far turn, angled out to the three path in upper stretch, took command in mid stretch and drove clear. BABBLE set a pressured pace along the inner rail, moved to the two path in upper stretch and dug in gamely after being passed in mid stretch. CRABS N BEER , never far back while saving ground, advanced along the inner rail to bid for the lead in upper stretch and gave way late. PICTURE THIS , fanned four wide entering the stretch, found room inside horses in the stretch and passed tired ones. SAM STORMY , four wide the first turn, chased between horses down the backstretch and far turn then gave way. DERBYNESS , caught in tight quarters leaving the starting gate, raced four deep the far turn and weakened. SMITHWICK'S SPICE prompted the pace to the stretch, gave way and was eased.
