Chart notes
SHOWDOWN KING unhurried early to be the trailer in the compact field, rallied approaching the quarter pole with a steady advance, circled the field six wide and swept to the lead in the final sixteenth with a strong late bid. THALBERG stalked the leaders to the turn, rallied four wide to challenge midway on the bend, took the lead turning for home and was outfinished in deep stretch. WROTE IN STONE tracked the leaders from the inside down the backstretch settling just off the pacesetter's heels, anlged five wide leaving the quarter pole rallying to loom in mid-stretch and flattened out finishing evenly. MRS. MANICOTTI prompted the pace down the backstretch, rallied between rivals to challenge for the lead on the turn, could not match the runner-up turning for home and kept-on through the lane. GRANDE TORTUGON (CHI) broke alertly to set the pace under steady pressure, had no answer when challenged on the bend and weakened in the stretch.
