Chart notes
EL REY REY sat well off the pace on the inside, made progress while easing off the rail to the three path around the far turn, closed in steadily, drew alongside the leaders with a sixteenth remaining and drove clear. ON THE WHIM raced up close three deep in the early going, tracked the speed outside SIR PERCIVAL up the backstretch, took aim in the two path on the far turn, drew alongside the leader with three-sixteenths remaining, grabbed the lead at the eighth pole, could not fend off the winner in the late stages and managed to hold on for second. LYLE THE CROCODILE (IRE) sat off the pace and moved inside, picked up stride on the far turn, chased two wide into the lane, moved out in upper stretch, finished well and almost got by ON THE WHIM for second. SHAMROCK GLITTER (FR) stumbled leaving the gate, recovered and went up to take control inside a pair of rivals, moved clear and opened up a comfortable lead, controlled the pace to the quarter pole, confronted by ON THE WHIM turning for home, lost command at the eighth pole, fought back into the final sixteenth and weakened late. IRISH PROPHET unhurried in the opening stages, traveled in the two path to the far turn, came under a ride and moved to the three path around that bend but failed to answer the call. SIR PERCIVAL showed early foot then raced up close in the two path, stalked the lone speed inside ON THE WHIM up the backstretch, came under a ride past the five-sixteenths pole, stayed on the fence to the stretch and weakened. KNIGHT TO KING (IRE) was off about a length slow to start, moved to the inside trailing the field, lagged behind to the stretch, eased in the furlong grounds and walked off.
