Chart notes
SPOONIE settled behind the trio up front, then took advantage of an opening along the rail to slip through and take command of the race near the half-mile pole, opened up a clear margin through the far turn and extended the advantage through the stretch to win as much the best. SOUTH OF BIRMINHAM was unhurried along the rail well off the pace, came off the rail in the stretch and rallied to gain the place while never a threat to the winner. LUCKY DESTINY was three wide in the early pace battle, then was the only one of the trio to go on in pursuit of SPOONIE, gave chase but was no match in the stretch and was passed by a rival in mid-stretch. GRANDSONSAM was void of speed and far back early, kept to the inside path and improved. TEXAS SPLURGE was the inside horse in the early pace battle, weakened on the far turn and had little to offer through the stretch run. NATHANIEL'S HOPE tracked behind the pace while keeping to the four or five path, but lacked a late bid. MOVE IN SILENCE contested the early pace from between rivals, dropped out passing the half-mile pole and was uninvolved thereafter.
