Chart notes
WAR LEGEND took contact from the inside runner having to be checked leaving the chute trailing down the backside, still lagged behind the group at the half, began to reach for more ground at the five sixteenths pole, swooped around runners three wide at the quarter marker to be in full flight outside in the five path in upper stretch and stormed on past, overpowering the frontrunner at the sixteenth pole proving much the best when going away for the win at the finish line. MAY AND JUNE had a narrow advantage on the outside in the beginning, opened up moving to the rail at the half, rolled along on the front end slackening the tempo around the oval, had a quickly diminishing lead on the rail not switching leads at the furlong pole and was no match for the winner who was driving swiftly past on the outside with a sixteenth to run. HOITY MORONI was jostled between horses shortly after leaving the gate, settled in midfield entering the backstretch, got shuffled further back at the half mile marker ahead of only the eventual winner, co-trailed on the inside at the quarter pole, skimmed the fence straightening out for the drive, moved out four wide getting clear run at the furlong marker and had a good rally in deep stretch getting up for the show money. SPEIGHTS WILL had the outside position tracking the lead pair initially, travelled three wide running evenly keeping pace throughout the turn, dropped back out of contention in the four path in upper stretch but was resurgent outside runners even though under only very mild asking from his rider coming back on late for a minor placing. CAJUN INFLUENCE was on the inside of another sitting in the second flight off the engaged duo, shifted out splitting foes improving at the half, chased the leader two wide around the bend, angled out to the three path in the hunt at the top of the lane but had little to offer late wilting between runners in the final furlong. SURE SHOT TIMBER broke outwards slightly in the early going, pressed the issue inside at the five eighths marker, had to be checked unable to hold rail position from the outside leader coming to the half mile marker, tracked two wide behind the frontrunner along the turn, scraped paint in with a fighting chance at the top of the stretch but failed to fire inside rivals in the final furlong. POCKET SPEED shifted to the outside near the rear with five furlongs from home, travelled three wide around the turn making no headway, was relegated to last in the two path turning for home and failed to menace in the stretch running.
