Chart notes
RIO GRANDE broke well to set the pace under mild pressure from an outer rival, maintained a narrow advantage around the turn, responded readily when set down at the top of the stretch, and drew off under hand-urging before being geared down late. BALTIMORE tracked the top pair three wide down the backstretch, mounted a bid leaving the three-furlong pole, ranged up on even terms turning for home, and finished willingly to hold second best, no match for the winner. EXECUTIVE tracked just behind the front-runners early, waited for room approaching the stretch, came under a drive entering the lane, and offered a grinding response to secure the third spot. HARD FREEZE flashed early speed to press the pace outside of RIO GRANDE down the backstretch, failed to match strides with that rival entering the stretch, and flattened out late. ZENCAT stumbled at the break to trail early, saved ground along the inside, and failed to make an impact. FIRESTREAK raced mid-pack early, steadily dropped back before the turn, and had little to offer through the lane.
