Chart notes
KING STEPHEN stalked from inside, ridden along while angling three wide around the far turn, chased determinedly into the last sixteenth, finally drew alongside MOONLIT SONATA and got up at the wire. MOONLIT SONATA showed the way with STRIKE A MATCH to the outside, cleared that rival at the half-mile pole, showed the way into the final furlong, remained clear into the last sixteenth, came under threat from KING STEPHEN in the final fifty yards and got nailed on the line. STRIKE A MATCH pressed the leader from outside, chased past the halfway point, pursued in the two path through the far turn, finished willingly down the lane and checked behind MOONLIT SONATA late. FIRE MOUNTAIN tracked three wide around the first turn, remained off the rail to the second bend, traveled three then four wide and tired in the stretch. KID CHARLEMAGNE trailed three wide around the first turn, coaxed along on the backstretch, went two wide into the far turn, angled wide around the bend and tired.
