Chart notes
REGAL PATRIOT broke well, vied three wide with GRUBAUER and CLEVER CLOVER through sharp fractions, eased off some through the turn then surged clear at the top of the stretch when cued and widened under steady handling to the finish. MIO BAMBINO tracked several lengths behind the pace battle, went into a drive from about the seven-sixteenths pole, went about three wide into the stretch and produced a strong finish to gain second in deep stretch while posing no threat to the winner. GRUBAUER contested the early pace racing between horses, fought on to mid-stretch but was no match for the winner and was passed late for second. SATANTA tracked inside of MIO BAMBINO well behind the pace, started to run on when put into a drive with about three furlongs to run and finished willingly but could not make an impact. MELANIE'S TIGER was hesitant to load, then did not show any speed from the break, raced near the back of the field and two to three wide to the turn, made a mild rally four to five wide down the stretch but was much too late. CLEVER CLOVER was part of the early pace mix from the inside, had a nose in front on the turn, battled gamely to mid-stretch then weakened in the final furlong. NORTH COUNTRY broke poorly, dropped far back early, chased throughout and was never a factor.
