CLOUSEAU broke a step slow then got lightly bumped on both sides a few strides out of the gate, was up with the early pace scramble through the first turn then stalked while letting NAFTIS dictate the fractions, put some more pressure on rival from the half mile marker, always traveling well, then took command at the top of the stretch, opened up and was not threatened down the lane. PASS THE BATON was allowed to settle into stride from the break and got inside position while dropping to the rear of the field, steadily advanced through the far turn, got blocked briefly near the quarter pole then responded to steady handling and intermittent urging to rally into second while no threat to the winner. SHOT OF COURAGE broke well and got inside position with the leaders on the first bend, tracked just behind the pace through the middle stages, had to wait for room on the far turn then got a bit crowded before the furlong marker, responded to strong handling when clear and gained third. TRUSTY RUSTY went five wide through the clubhouse turn, remained wide to the far turn, launched a sustained bid after passing the half-mile marker, improve position on the far turn still five wide, finished willingly in the stretch but was outfinished. PARK CITY vied for the lead four wide through the first turn, tracked a couple of lengths behind the pace then launched a bid from the seven-sixteenths pole, finished well but needed to do better. MELANIE'S TIGER was held up from the break then raced in the two and three path through the initial turn and down the backstretch, continued to trail heading into the far turn, started to run on from the three furlong marker, swung seven wide into the stretch but did not improve while drifting out late. NAFTIS was sent for and gained the lead going into the first turn, attempted to slow down the pace but was pushed by CLOUSEAU to go faster down the backstretch and through the far turn, held on briefly when challenged by that foe to upper stretch then could not go on and finished evenly. J. B. BOOKS broke well but not asked for speed, settled mid-pack, lost position on the turn and did not rally.. CARDIFF CRACK settled near the rear of the field early, advanced into contention, came under pressure with three furlongs to run but did not respond and was outrun the rest of the way. COUSIN RICHIE was held up from the break and moved out to the three path for the run through the first turn, tracked in the clear but three to four wide down the backstretch and into the far turn, came under a ride from the three-eighths pole but did not respond and trailed the field down the stretch while racing on the left lead.
