DROP UM rated off of the early pace and tracked two to three wide and between runners into the first turn, well placed into the backstretch run, tracked the decent pace between foes heading to the half-mile marker, made a quick move to vie for the lead into the far turn, took a narrow lead nearing the quarter marker then met the bid of MALA into upper stretch, drifted out at the three-sixteenths then dug in while leading approaching the eighth pole, dueled MALA into the final sixteenth, drifted out in deep stretch and lasted at the finish for a determined win. MALA allowed to settle early on, saved ground into the first turn, improved position along the backstretch run, roused four wide into the far turn, vied for the lead at the quarter marker then battled DROP UM into upper stretch, dueled while on even terms past the eighth pole, was crowded by the drifting DROP UM in the final sixteenth and just missed for the win, while holding for second in a game runner-up effort. ACCIDENTAL GENIUS settled off of the decent early pace, guided three wide along the first turn, unhurried through the backstretch run, chased five wide into the second turn and loomed nearing the furlong marker, chased the leading pair into the stretch, closed into the final sixteenth, could not reel in the top two in deep stretch and was well clear of the rest for third. THIRSTY VISION unhurried in the early going, was guided three wide into the first turn, content to trail through the backstretch run, raced two to three wide while trailing into the far turn, swung widest into upper stretch, mounted a mild late bid but was unable to threaten the leaders in the final sixteenth. MAXIMUS sent to assume early command, showed good speed and showed the way into the first turn, carved out decent fractions into the backstretch run, drew to a clear advantage nearing the half-mile pole, came under pressure into the second turn, was overtaken at the quarter marker, outkicked into upper stretch and faded in the stretch drive. NIJINSKY HALO prominent away from the start, attended to the decent early pace while outside of MAXIMUS, stalked the pacesetter into the backstretch run, chased two wide and between rivals into the far turn, lost ground nearing the quarter marker and gave way in the stretch drive. KALEA BAY was crowded at the start but away in good order, tracked the decent early pace three to four wide into the first turn, well placed while tracking through the backstretch run, chased three wide into the second turn, outrun at the quarter pole, stopped in upper stretch, was eased through the lane and walked off under his own power. THE STEWARDS CONDUCTED AN INQUIRY INTO THE STRETCH RUN. IN A UNANIMOUS DECISION, THE STEWARDS RULED THAT DROP UM DRIFTED OUT IN DEEP STRETCH, IMPEDED MALA, AND COST THAT RUNNER THE OPPORTUNITY OF A BETTER PLACING.
